Laser stands for Light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation. It is a form of light amplifier, providing enhancement of particular properties of light energy which can be used to stimulate acupuncture points. Much of the laser light it absorbed by superficial tissues but deeper effects can be achieved.
Most lasers generate light in the visible red and infrared bands, and the energy of photos in these wavelengths to stimulate healing, reduce pain, optimise inflammation, restore function and support immune function.
Here at Pet Acupuncture Wiltshire we use a Class 3B laser (5-500mW) which is low-level laser therapy (LLLT) or Photobiomodulation (PBM). The advantages of Laser is it is safe, painless, treatment time is short and there is minimal animal restraint required. It can be useful adjunct to acupuncture needling or where needling is not tolerated. You will be asked to wear safety goggles whilst your pet has laser treatment.
What kinds of conditions are treated with LASER?
LASER should be used as part of a multimodal pain management program, thereby reducing the amount of medication required by a patient.
